A parolee suspected of beating his girlfriend and holding her against her will in a Banning hotel room, culminating in a SWAT raid on the location, was being held without bail Wednesday.
Alfredo Raul Guerrero, 36, of Banning was arrested and booked into the Smith Correctional Facility Tuesday on suspicion of kidnapping, false imprisonment, assault with a deadly weapon, making terrorist threats, domestic abuse and parole violations.
Early Tuesday afternoon, Guerrero allegedly became irate with his girlfriend, whose name was not disclosed, and prevented her from leaving the room they occupied at the Hampton Inn at 6071 Joshua Palmer Way, according to the Banning Police Department.
Over an undisclosed period, the suspect beat and brandished a pistol at the woman, threatening to kill her, police alleged.
About 3:30 p.m., she was able to bolt from the room and call 911, investigators said.
Patrol officers went to the hotel but decided against trying to confront the suspect on their own, requesting the assistance of a Riverside County sheriff’s SWAT team.
SWAT deputies executed a search warrant at the location about 7:30 p.m., taking Guerrero into custody without incident, according to police.
The woman was treated for her injuries but did not require hospitalization.
No details were released concerning a possible motive for the suspect’s alleged acts, and there was no information regarding his prior convictions.
