Manchester United head coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been boosted by the return of Edinson Cavani and has included the veteran striker in his squad for the side’s clash with Leeds United on Sunday.

The Red Devils, sitting seventh in the table, welcome their old rivals to Old Trafford for the first time in the Premier League since way back in 2004.

Solskjaer’s men will be buoyed by their 3-2 victory over Sheffield United on Thursday night, while Marcelo Bielsa’s visitors will also be full of confidence after a thumping 5-2 win at home to Newcastle in midweek.

Much of the talk heading into the match has surrounded United’s summer arrival, Cavani, who was recently charged by the FA for bringing the game into disrepute after allegedly racist or offensive social media post.

The 33-year-old Uruguay forward trained at Carrington this week and could return to the fold after missing United’s last three matches versus Leipzig, Manchester City and Sheffield United with a groin injury.

According to Manchester Evening News, Cavani and Eric Bailly are both in line to feature after being pictured at the Lowry hotel with the rest of their team-mates on Saturday evening.

Confirmed squad players, according to MEN

David de Gea, Dean Henderson, Lee Grant, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Harry Maguire, Eric Bailly, Victor Lindelof, Luke Shaw, Alex Telles, Fred, Scott McTominay, Nemanja Matic, Bruno Fernandes, Donny van de Beek, Paul Pogba, Juan Mata, Daniel James, Mason Greenwood, Marcus Rashford, Edinson Cavani, Anthony Martial

Asked whether Cavani would be fit to face Leeds at his press conference on Friday, Solskjaer said: ‘Edinson will be available, I think, yeah

‘He trained this morning so he should be available for the Leeds game.’

United managed to come through their nervy victory at Bramall Lane without any further injury concerns.

‘I don’t think we lost anyone during the win,’ Solskjaer added.

‘When you win games, the boys never feel the little knocks and bruises too badly,

The Norwegian has plenty of options to choose from in central defence, with Victor Lindelof, Harry Maguire, Eric Bailly and Axel Tuanzebe all fit and firing.

‘Victor and Harry have been very consistent, I thought, last season as well,’ Solskjaer continued.

‘Eric and Axel had small injuries but are available for us and, for Leeds, I hope so. So let’s see what we do.

‘Obviously, Harry played the most minutes in European football last season, I think. I think he’s enjoying playing.

‘Victor is maturing, growing and getting more and more used to the demands of the Premier League.

‘They’ve been very consistent and I’m very happy with them. It might come to the point where they’ve got to rest, of course.’
