The Wanted star Tom Parker has opened up about the ‘brutal’ side effects of chemotherapy and radiation after his cancer diagnosis.
Tom, 32, explained to his 200,000 followers how the treatment he is receiving for inoperable brain cancer has affected him.
He shared several sweet videos of his 17-month old daughter Aurelia before explaining: ‘OK so as some of you will probably know I’ve just been through chemo and radio haven’t I, which was, let me tell you, pretty goddamn brutal.
‘But some of the side effects from the chemo and the radio, you get bad short term memory loss – mine was already bad wasn’t it?’
Off-camera, Tom’s wife of 11 years Kelsey Hardwick joked: ‘Horrendous already, so now I’m like, literally, it’s even worse!’
Tom went on to explain the treatment’s strange impact on his short-term memory.
He said: ‘But it’s the weirdest thing because I’ll go up to a… what did I just do? Like what was I going to say? But I can remember stuff like this…’
The boy band star then held up a toy version of the Heart of Tafiti, the necklace famously worn by Disney character Moana.
Tom continued: ‘Oh, what have we got? A Heart of Tafiti for Christmas? How do you remember that? Do you know what I mean? Stupid.’
But the doting dad clearly has loved spending time with his family at Christmas, watching Home Alone with Kelsey, Aurelia and baby son Bodhi, who was born in October.
He’s also been working on new music, and earlier this month released his first single since his diagnosis.
The track, a cover of Tamia’s So Into You, was a collaboration with X Factor star Ollie Marland under their Lost + Found duo.
Tom previously said he can’t wait to get back out on the road to tour for his fans whenever Covid-19 subsides.
He shared his dream for the future, explaining to Metro.co.uk: ‘I want to make music and continue to be as annoying as possible with our constant laughing in the studio and in general life’.
