Manchester United and Chelsea’s £50million transfer target Jude Bellingham has been compared to Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard.
Premier League giants United and Chelsea are expected to battle it out this summer to secure a deal for Birmingham City midfielder Bellingham.
The 16-year-old became the youngest player to represent Birmingham when he made his senior debut for the Championship club at the start of the season.
Manchester United expressed interest in signing Bellingham during the January transfer window and Chelsea have reportedly joined the transfer battle over the past few days.
Former Arsenal and Liverpool winger Jermaine Pennant says Bellingham is a ‘special talent’ who reminds him of Liverpool and England hero Gerrard.
‘He’s a fantastic player,’ Pennant told talkSPORT. ‘He reminds me of a young Steven Gerrard.
‘He throws himself about, he can get up and down the pitch, he can score goals and assist goals, he’s got trickery.
‘He’s a fantastic young player and at the age of 16 he’s doing this week in, week out in the Championship.
‘The Championship is a very, very strong, demanding and physical league, and he’s throwing his body about; he’s strong and he’s only going to get stronger.
‘I’m surprised there are not more teams interested in him than just Chelsea and Manchester United because he is a really special talent.
‘What he can achieve in his career is frightening.’
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will look to bolster his squad with a number of signings this summer, with Manchester United currently only eighth in the Premier League.
Chelsea boss Frank Lampard, meanwhile, wants to bring at least four new players to Stamford Bridge at the end of the season and has already agreed a deal to sign Hakim Ziyech from Ajax.
