The NHS Nightingale Hospital North West is up and running just two weeks after work began on it.
A series of pictures revealed the inside of the new 648-bed field hospital that was built to cope with the expected influx of coronavirus patients.
It’s situated at the historical railway station terminus which now forms the main hall of the Manchester Central Convention Centre.
The facility opened today and will treat patients from across the North West of England , providing them with general medical care and oxygen therapy after discharge from intensive care units (ICU).
The new hospital has been dubbed the Nightingale of the North.
Hospital CEO Michael McCourt tweeted: ‘1st tweet as CEO NHS Nightingale North West.

‘Proud & thankful to be able to say we take our first patients today. In 14 days huge NHS, Army & NHS partner effort this hospital is open.
‘A lot of attention on us but don’t want to forget we are here to support an already busy NW NHS.’
The first patients were admitted to the Nightingale Hospital in London last week, which was set up in just nine days at the Excel Exhibition Centre to handle the coronavirus crisis.
The facility, which was officially opened by Prince Charles, will provide up to 4,000 beds equipped with ventilators and oxygen and be used for those who require further intensive care treatment for COVID-19.
Around 25,000 doctors, nurses and support staff will work at the location once it is fully operational.
Meanwhile, another 697 people have died after contracting coronavirus, taking the UK death toll to at least 11,309.
