The Masterchef finish line was a close one and this year’s finalists battled it out in the kitchen in the final challenge with their best dishes.
Over the past eight weeks, 60 hopefuls were whittled down to just three as their culinary skills were pushed to the limit.
Dave Rickett, 31, Thomas Frake, 32, Sandy Tang, 24 were the finalists and did all they could to impress judges John Torode and Gregg Wallace.
However, Thomas blew away the judges with his starter of monkfish scampi made with monkfish tails in a beer batter, making him this year’s winner.
His main was ox cheek braised in black treacle, bone marrow and porter, while his dessert was an interesting choice of salted caramel custard tart, topped with grated nutmeg, and served with popcorn ice cream and toffee popcorn.
Fans were divided at the judges’ choice as Sandy left the judges in awe over her salted duck egg ice cream and cannelloni.
‘So glad Thomas won. He was the most consistent and his food looked lovely. You could tell he cooked with his heart,’ one viewer said.
‘Well done Thomas you totally deserved it,’ another commented.
Another wrote: ‘Soooo happy for @thomasfrake winning #MasterChefUK – he is so humble and just amazing.’
However, some viewers thought that Sandy was more deserving of the prize due to her extremely creative dishes.
Many thought that Thomas’ food was just pub classics made ‘differently.’
One viewer posted: ‘So gutted for Sandy not to have won – So humble and such beautiful cuisine. I suspect a bit of poker face tactics from @JohnTorode1 and @greggwallace.’
‘Huge congratulations to Thomas, his dishes looked absolutely delicious! In my heart Sandy is my winner though, just loved her style and bravery,’ another mentioned.
One fan pointed out: ‘Sandy’s cooking has so much more potential. She will be the real success of the series.’
Thomas doesn’t get the trophy yet, however, as the coronavirus pandemic means he has to wait until after the lockdown is lifted to take it home.
