Robin Williams has been given his own YouTube channel that will honour his life and work onscreen, nearly six years after his death.

The Hollywood actor died by suicide in August 2014, aged 63, but has now remembered online in a series of video posted to his own YouTube channel, created by his estate.

The channel launched on Wednesday (1 April) after a teaser was released last month that showed a montage of Robin’s funniest moments during his stand-up on stage.

A series of videos have already been shared via the channel, including some of Robin’s moments on broadway and interview with Robin’s pal Lewis Black on his friendship with the star.

The bio for Robin’s channel reads: ‘The Official Robin Williams YouTube Channel celebrates the life and comic genius of Robin Williams.

‘Whether you know Robin from the stage or from the screen, as a comedian, an alien, or a genie – be prepared to laugh and cry at these unforgettable and hilarious performances.’

Robin was famous for starring in much-loved movies such as Mrs Doubtfire, Good Will Hunting, Jumanji, and Dead Poet’s Society.

He also voiced the character of Genie in Disney classic Aladdin.

News of his YouTube channel launching comes after Robin’s daughter Zelda, 30, shared an old strip of photo booth photos she had taken with her famous dad.

She revealed that she’d come across the snaps while spring cleaning to pass the time during the coronavirus lockdown.

Zelda left fans all emotional as she captioned her sweet post: ‘Isolation spring deep cleaning is turning up some fun old gems.’

Robin is survived by daughter Zelda and his sons Zak, 36, and Cody, 28.

Zak, Robin’s eldest son, welcomed his first child last year and named his baby boy McLaurin after his late father. McLaurin had been Robin’s middle name.

Zak has previously said Robin was the ‘most successful person I know’ and opened up about his dad’s struggles during an interview on Good Morning Britain in 2019.

He said: ‘Being Robin Williams’ son was wonderful in so many ways, having to share him with the world was hard at times. When he was having challenges and going through certain things, it was heartbreaking because he still went out and wanted to share his feelings of laughter and humour with the world.

‘While he was suffering and struggling, he still went out and performed, I admire him and loved him so, having to share him was hard.

‘For the most part he was very good at putting his personal struggles aside and soldiering on. When it did show through, it was sad to see someone who was suffering so, personally you want to do everything you can to help soothe and ease a really intense personal pain.

‘There were times it felt like there was helplessness from my part. I didn’t know what I could do, or how I could be of support, and those people who were close to him, we all love him so and found it difficult.’
