Bradley Walsh was warned he could die from a heart disease, as doctors branded him a ‘ticking time bomb’.

The 60-year-old was implored to lose weight immediately after recent health tests, or face fatal consequences.

Following the news, the Chase star – who is married to wife Donna Derby – rushed to get fit, and has now lost 10lbs in lockdown.

‘I was a time bomb. I produce too much cholesterol. It’s a silent killer,’ he explained. ‘My heart guy said, “Look, Brad, you need to get fit”.’

His dad sadly died aged 59, as a result of heart disease – with Bradley explaining this gave him a ‘hang-up’ about turning 60.

He went in for a series of medical exams, including a full medical he undergoes every two years, a carotid artery test and calcium test for his heart.

The Doctor Who actor has hereditary high cholesterol through his mum, with a heart expert begging him to ‘get fit’ and start training to lower this.

‘I was a time bomb. I was quite lucky in regards to the calcium test but my doctor said I produce too much cholesterol. It’s a silent killer,’ he continued to the Sun on Sunday.

‘I thought, “Oh crikey, I’m gonna be bang in trouble here if I don’t lose the weight and start dealing with this”. I decided to get consciously stuck in. So, touch wood, I will be okay.’

This occurred just before lockdown started, with the dad-of-two shocked to find that he was 14st 9lbs – which is the ‘heaviest he has ever been’.

He has since turned his diet around and – thanks to advice from neighbour Mark Wright – has managed to drop 10lbs so far.

Bradley turned 60 last month, with his birthday the subject of a TV special tribute.

Appearing on This Morning ahead of the big day, he told Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby he was touched by the honour.

‘It was only yesterday that it seemed I had my 50th birthday and then all of a sudden this thing is happening on telly,’ he said.

‘I feel really quite humbled and a bit emotional actually. I didn’t realise that was going to happen. It’s lovely.’
