EastEnders star Davood Ghadami has teased what viewers can expect when the BBC One soap returns later this year.

The actor — who portrays Kush Kazemi in the long-running serial drama — said ‘On a personal level, I’m really looking forward to getting back around my friends and colleagues.

‘And also being able to see where the storylines go from here, how the people of Walford live in the new world, and how the storylines pick up from where we left off.

‘It’s all a very intriguing time, almost to reset what Walford is and how the characters interact and relate.’

‘I get to sit in my dressing room opposite James’ [Bye] dressing room, with our doors open – more than two meters apart of course, and just have a chat, so getting back to some kind of normal and extracurricular Interactions will be great.’

EastEnders was forced to shut down production amid the Covid-19 pandemic earlier this year, and episodes were subsequently rationed out to ensure it remained on the air.

However, the final pre-lockdown episode aired on June 16, and therefore the soap was forced to go off the air.

Ahead of its return, the Monday slot in the schedule has been occupied with Secrets From The Square, which sees several cast members sit down with Stacey Dooley to discuss their time on the soap thus far.

Davood — along with co-star James Bye — take centre stage in this Monday’s episode.

Speaking about having the opportunity to revisit some classic Kush moments, the actor said: ‘They all hit me equally as hard but in different ways.

‘For example, we saw a clip of my first arrival on the square which seems like forever ago and yesterday at the same time – and it was so interesting to see how people look and all the characters I was working with at the time, how they all came across and how different that is to now.

‘Plus some fun bits particularly between Kush and Martin which was great. It was really great to reminisce and look back on how much fun we’ve had over the years.’

EastEnders: Secrets From The Square continues Monday 6 July at 8pm on BBC One.
