Willian has pleaded with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to stay at Arsenal and help the Gunners challenge for the Premier League title.

Aubameyang has developed into arguably Arsenal’s most important player since signing from Borussia Dortmund in 2018, netting 70 goals in 109 appearances for the Gunners.

The 31-year-old has entered the final year of his contract at the Emirates, however, and Arsenal fans fear the club may sell him this summer to avoid losing him for nothing in 12 months’ time.

Gunners boss Mikel Arteta is desperate to hang on to Aubameyang and his latest signing, the former Chelsea star Willian, also wants him to put pen to paper on a new deal.

Willian, who signed a three-year deal with Arsenal earlier this month, told SunSport: ‘I joined Arsenal because we can challenge for titles but Pierre will be a big part of the plan.

‘He has to stay – it is very important to me. This is a guy who gets 25-30 goals a season and we have to keep a player like that.

‘He’s one of the best players in our team and somebody I want to be making chances for.’

Arsenal endured another mixed season, finishing only eighth in the Premier League but winning the FA Cup with a 2-1 victory over Chelsea at Wembley.

Aubameyang scored twice in the final, taking his tally for the season to 29 goals in 44 matches.
