A man has been arrested for allegedly breaking into a home owned by WWE superstar Sonya Deville.

Phillip A. Thomas II was found waiting for the 26-year-old wrestler – whose real name is Daria Berenato – with a knife, mace, duct tape and plastic zip ties after allegedly stalking her for years on social media.

Although investigators didn’t identify the victim, the home where the suspect was arrested is owned by the star.

According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, the 24-year-old man started plotting the abduction eight months ago.

As reported by the Tampa Bay Times, Thomas cut a hole in the property’s patio screen and remained there for three to four hours while watching and listening.

Shortly before 3am, he entered the home through a sliding glass dour, which activated the alarm, while the homeowner then spotted him and fled with a guest in a car, and dialled 911.

Thomas was still at the home when officials arrived.

The man – who has been listed on the jail booking sheet as an Applebee’s crew member – has been charged with armed burglary of a dwelling, aggravated stalking, criminal mischief and attempted armed kidnapping.

He was being held without bail.

In a release, Sheriff Chad Chronister said: ‘Our deputies are unveiling the suspect’s disturbing obsession with this homeowner who he had never met, but stalked on social media for years.

‘It’s frightening to think of all the ways this incident could have played out had the home alarm not gone off and alerted the homeowner of an intruder.’

The Tampa Bay Times adds that a Twitter account in Thomas’ name – @Phillip80400010 – featured messages about the wrestler, including retweets from her account over the weekend.

On 30 July, he also responded to one of Deville’s posts about her GLAAD media awards appearance.

His tweet read: ‘I’m so proud of you Daria you’re a inspiration to me (sic)’
