Drew Barrymore did not realise that Jason Sudeikis was related to Cheers star George Wendt – and we’re shocked.

Jason had made a guest appearance on the actress’s talk show, The Drew Barrymore Show, with the two reminiscing on their past experiences on Saturday Night Live and why they decided to get into acting.

When questioned on why he became an actor, Jason, 45, revealed that it was due to watching George – his uncle – on Cheers, in which he played the role of barflyer Norm Peterson between 1982 and 1993.

However, Drew, 45, dropped a bombshell on Jason as she admitted that she had no idea that they were related to each other.

Appearing very shocked, she said: ‘First of all, I did not realise your uncle was George Wendt – do you understand, Jason, that I always call myself Norm from Cheers?’

As Jason asked why she would refer to herself as the character, she jokingly responded: ‘Because I’ve always been at the end of the bar, drinking that beer hanging out.

‘I’m Norm, I’m just always around. I consider myself a fixture. I think Norm is the most positive, happy, fixture.’

Drew later reflected on her experience on SNL, a show she hosted when she was just seven years old.

The star revealed that ET director Steven Spielberg had acted as ‘chaperone’ for the evening while she was busy filming.

‘I did SNL in 1982 and when I went there Steven Spielberg kind of saw how my life was being lived and wanted to really step in and be more of a father figure to me, thank god,’ she recalled.

‘He came to the show, he was a real chaperone wanting to make sure the comedy was clean that I was involved in.

‘Just doing all the things a parent would do and he brought Robin Williams with him to the taping.’

Jason, who was previously a member of the sketch show’s cast between 2005 and 2013, replied: ‘That’s incredible.’

He added: ‘That’s one of those places no matter what anyone does for a living, people always want to know about SNL.’

The Drew Barrymore show airs weekdays on Global.
