The Crown has given fans their first glimpse at Princess Diana’s wedding dress for the upcoming series, and it definitely hasn’t disappointed.

Series five of the Netflix drama is set to show Prince Charles’ relationship and marriage with Princess Diana.

Emma Corrin will be playing the princess, with her being seen in the dress for the first time.

A post from the show’s official Twitter reads: ‘A first glimpse of Princess Diana’s wedding dress.

‘Emmy award-winning costume designer Amy Roberts wanted to capture the same spirit and style of David & Elizabeth Emanuel’s original design, without creating a replica for Emma Corrin.’

Fans are definitely impressed, with one writing: ‘Oh my goodness, the spirit of the dress has certainly been captured! And well done to the casting team and makeup/styling crew – I had to double check. Can’t wait for the premiere date.’

‘She really looks like Diana. I had to do a double take,’ another added, while one more said: ‘The resemblance is uncanny. Amazing casting and costume design.’

Charles and Diana married in July 1981, with the princess’s original dress adorned with 10,000 pearls and a 25-foot train.

It’s not the first time fans have noticed the uncanny resemblance between Emma and the late royal, with the actress even saying she feels like a ‘friend’ after playing her.

She told Vogue: ‘I feel I’ve got to know Diana like you would a friend.

‘I know that sounds really weird, but I get a great sense of companionship from her.

‘I suppose, over time, you kind of start to patch together a sense of empathy and a sense of understanding. I love figuring people out.’

The next series, which is set for release in November, will star Olivia Colman at the helm as the Queen and Tobias Menzies as Prince Philip.

Also returning are Josh O’Connor as Prince Charles, Erin Doherty as Princess Anne, and Helena Bonham Carter as Princess Margaret.

Gillian Anderson is set to play Margaret Thatcher, whose time in office started in 1979.

The Crown series four will be released on Netflix on November 15.
