Parolee Arrested After High-Speed Chase in Norco

A 29-year-old parolee accused of leading police on a high-speed chase in a stolen car in Norco was behind bars Wednesday without bail.

George Michael Mendoza of Jurupa Valley was arrested Tuesday and booked at the Robert Presley Detention Center in Riverside on suspicion of vehicle theft, felony evading and other crimes, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.

Sgt. Ronald Smith said a deputy spotted a suspected stolen vehicle at about 3:30 p.m. in the area of Hamner Avenue and Sixth Street.

The deputy attempted to pull the vehicle over, but the driver — later identified as Mendoza — refused, Smith said.

Following a brief chase, the vehicle stopped at the dead end near Pikes Peak, where Mendoza allegedly attempted to run away before deputies caught up and arrested him.

Sheriff’s officials said Mendoza had an unrelated felony warrant out for his arrest at the time of the incident, although additional information was not provided.

Jail records show he could be charged with the crimes as soon as Friday.
