The royal couple flew to Berlin in the evening, which was also Prince Charles’ 72nd birthday, to attend the Central Remembrance Ceremony to commemorate the annual National Day of Mourning the following day.
This was the first time a member of the British Royal Family has attend the ceremony. Charles and Camilla’s last visit to Germany was in May 2019.

The visit also included the Remembrance Ceremony at the Bundestag and a wreath-laying ceremony at Neue Wache Central Memorial.
During the wreath-laying, Camilla put down a posy made of rosemary (to represent remembrance) nerines (to represent peace), olive and white daisies.

Charles gave a landmark speech during the visit in both German and English, where he said, “As our countries begin this new chapter in our long history, let us remember all victims of war, tyranny and persecution; those who laid down their lives for the freedoms we cherish, and those who struggle for these freedoms to this day. They inspire us to strive for a better tomorrow – let us make this our common cause.”
He also urged that the countries “must work together” on a number of issues from those facing “unspeakable cruelty” for their religion, to the pandemic and climate change.
The Prince of Wales delivered a speech at the Central Remembrance Ceremony in Berlin today and spoke about the bond between the UK and Germany.

What is being dubbed as a “Brexit tour” to strengthen ties between the countries, the visit is not without controversy as the couple travelled just after the U.K. went back into lockdown. It is understood that they will be taking all the proper COVID safety precautions both abroad and when they return home which includes a two week isolation for the just over 24 hour trip.
