Stormzy brings joy to sitting rooms as he performs last gig of 2020 at McDonald’s virtual festival

Stormzy was on top form tonight as he brought joy to people’s living rooms for his last live appearance in 2020.

The chart-topping rapper treated fans a 45-minute set as he closed McDonald’s virtual festival, which also saw the likes of Lewis Capaldi, Jess Glynne and The Voice winner Becky Hill perform.

The grime star connected with viewers who watched along at home, requesting everyone joined in and danced.

‘I know it’s a pandemic right now and I know this feels a bit strange,’ Stormzy said in the middle of his set.

‘Usually, I’m used to performing in front of a few people but right now you lot are in the comfort of your own home, you’re probably watching from your phone, your laptop, from an Apple TV on your screen, whatever it is.’

He continued: ‘So right now, I want to bring you a bit of joy to your front room. This is what this is all about.

‘So if you can, stand up. As you know, there was no carnival this year, so we’re going to do something a bit carnival-esque and I just want you to dance. I want you to have a good time. It’s Sunday, it’s time for vibes.’

Fans were loving Stormzy’s performance and praised the rapper for raising their spirits amid the second lockdown.

‘Thank you for making my Sunday night aka accounts night enjoyable during this horrible pandemic,’ wrote one.

Echoing a similar sentiment, another added: ‘#ImLovinItLive has been the gift we all needed….. I miss live music sooo much…. Epic sets from @BeckyHill @JessGlynne @LewisCapaldi and looking forward to Stormzy shortly… Thank you McDonald’s.’

Stormzy’s surprise set came after he was forced to cancel his Heavy Is The Head tour in March due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Speaking about the decision to put on the virtual festival, McDonald’s Vice President or Marketing and Menu enthused: ‘We wanted to host the I’m Lovin’ It Live weekend to thank crew and reward customers during this difficult year and we’ve been absolutely blown away by the response.

‘This weekend has been hard for many reasons, so hopefully a few hours of free, top-class entertainment from the UK’s biggest artists has allowed audiences to escape and bring a smile to their faces.’

It really was the pick me up we needed.
