Even with lighter traffic than usual due to the coronavirus pandemic, motorists making their way west Sunday as they returned from travel for the Thanksgiving weekend were facing gridlock on Interstate 10 through the San Gorgonio Pass.
Traffic was moving under 20 mph at midday on the westbound I-10 between North Palm Springs and Banning, according to Sigalert.com.
A multi-vehicle crash on the I-10 near the Hargrave Street off-ramp forced three lanes to be temporarily shut down at around 12:30 p.m., which compounded delays for westward motorists.
According to Caltrans, the lanes reopened but drivers in the area were warned to “expect heavy delays.”
The I-10 is the main connector between the Los Angeles Basin and the Coachella Valley.
