Ben Chilwell hobbled off after just 10 minutes in Chelsea’s 3-0 win over West Ham in the Premier League on Monday night and Frank Lampard confessed is a ‘doubt’ for the Boxing Day meeting with Arsenal.

Chilwell, who turned 24 on Monday, landed awkwardly after a challenge with Jarrod Bowen early on at Stamford Bridge.

He tried to carry on but fell to the floor a matter of minutes later and forced manager Frank Lampard to replace the birthday boy with Emerson Palmieri.

Chelsea responded to the setback quickly on the pitch as Thiago Silva headed them in front from a Mason Mount corner moments later.

Tammy Abraham scored twice in the second half to help Chelsea get back to winning ways, after suffering back-to-back losses to Everton and Wolves, and they climbed to fifth in the Premier League table.

But the injury to Chilwell could prove a major blow ahead of their Boxing Day clash with Arsenal.

And Lampard gave an update on his condition after the West Ham match.

‘I expect he will be doubtful for Arsenal,’ said Lampard.

‘He turned his ankle, we will have a scan tomorrow.’

Abraham, meanwhile, was delighted to get on the scoresheet twice on his return to the starting XI.

‘We needed a performance, I need to be in the right places at the right times, we had to stay patient but luckily we got the three points,’ he told the BBC.

‘I need to help the team with either goals or assists, or just being a threat. It’s about keep getting goals, keep being in the right place.

‘It’s still early doors to be looking at the table, we have to just keep picking up three points.’
