X Factor vocal coach Annabel Williams has addressed whether she thinks the ITV talent show will come back after its one-year hiatus.
The future of the series was previously put in doubt after Simon Cowell confirmed plans to ‘rest the series’ back in February.
Last year saw two different versions of the show, with X Factor: Celebrity and X Factor: The Band, however, neither achieved ratings that the series used to.
Annabel, who has coached the likes of James Arthur and Sam Bailey from The X Factor believes the show having a year off ‘won’t do it any harm’,
Speaking to Metro.co.uk about the programme’s potential return, Annabel began: ‘I think everybody will always love The X factor and it will always have its audience, I think it’s a wonderful show.
‘I think what it’s done for so many individuals is just fantastic and I think that if and when it does come back, it will come back bigger and better.’
‘I think it’s absolutely fine to take a year off, and I have no idea myself. I don’t think anybody knows yet if it’s going to come back next year, but if it does, fantastic,’ she added.
Annabel, who has worked with singers on both The X Factor and Britain’s Got Talent since 2012, went on to add that she does face challenges when coaching contestants.
‘It is challenging because a lot of these people haven’t even held a microphone before,’ she continued.
‘So, you’re not just getting them ready for a performance at a party, you’re getting them ready to sing on live television.’
‘So a lot of it is the psychological approach,’ she added. ‘I find that by training them and getting them confident within their own vocals, that, in turn, lifts their confidence, and before they know it they’re feeling a lot more ready than they were when they started.’
The 40-year-old, who has also coached the late Amy Winehouse and Jennifer Hudson launched a voice app during lockdown, to help teach tutorials and breathing exercises to singers.
‘All of the people I coach have got the app and there’s breathing exercises on there which are designed to calm you down,’ Annabel explained.
‘There’s also another phase of the app which is going to have a section for people that actually aren’t singers.
‘They can use these breathing exercises in anxious situations and even in their daily life.’
