Manchester United are looking for further encouragement from Harry Kane that he is keen on leaving Tottenham before making a bid for the England captain.

The 26-year-old opened the door to leave Tottenham last month when he refused to commit his future to the club during an Instagram video with Jamie Redknapp.

United are long-term admirers of Kane but the Red Devils are unwilling to enter into fraught negotiations with Daniel Levy without full knowledge that the striker is keen on leaving.

Spurs denied reports over the weekend that they would sell for £200m but United are refusing to give up on their desire to sign the Three Lions skipper.

Manchester United want Kane to provide a further indication that a move would be realistic before spending time on signing the forward.

United have held protracted, lengthy talks with Spurs in the past over Dimitar Berbatov, Luka Modric and Gareth Bale.

In the case of Bale and Modric, United squandered valuable time in trying to sign the pair and missed out on other targets such as Cesc Fabregas and Thiago Alcantara.

The club do not want to see a repeat of those scenes and Sky Sports claim United need more encouragement before pushing forward with a world record £200m deal.

Despite the financial impact of the coronavirus lockdown, United feel well placed to capitalise in the summer transfer market.

United are keen on signing Dortmund star Jadon Sancho for around £120m, while they hope to sign Jack Grealish for around £50m.
