Race Across The World viewers are feeling very emotional tonight after fan-favourite Jo opened up about her incurable cancer diagnosis.

Jo, who is competing in the programme with her son Sam, had a little stop-gap as they were travelling through Brazil, where the duo decided to work for a British ex-pat for free board.

Whilst Sam was busy surfing, Jo discussed her health troubles to the camera, and had fans tearing up at home.

Explaining she had been diagnosed with lymphoma, Jo said: ‘I had chemo, it was harder than I thought it would be. I lost 80% of my hair andI lost a lot of confidence. I tried to put a brave face on it but I think I was a bit naive about dealing with things.

‘It’s not curable – it will come back, I’ve got limited time period, really, where I can do it. I really want to do something again, I want to travel again, I want to see the world again and introduce Sam to it.’

And it’s fair to say that after her brave decision to open up on camera, fans were in floods of tears after hearing Jo’s story.

‘Jo on Race Across The World comes across as a little sweetheart,’ one fan wrote. ‘What a lovely woman.’

Another emotional viewer added: ‘Bye, I’m crying so much at Race Across The World.’

It seems we’re all massive fans of Jo now too, someone else gushed: ‘Jo seems like the biggest legend in the known universe.’

And you know what? We have to agree!

We salute you, Jo!

Jo and Sam were also front and centre in another emotional moment on the show when they discussed their emotional backstory.

The mum-of-two revealed she had adopted Sam at just six months old, and worried about their connection.

‘The time I realised how much I loved him was when he was over a year old and that tsunami in South East Asia happened. I remember reading this story about a mother with two children and she couldn’t hold onto both children and she had to decide which one to let go. ‘

I had nightmares about it, and at that point, I realised I couldn’t let go of either of them.’

Through blurry eyes, Jo continued: ‘And it was then I realised I loved them both equally and he’s totally mine, he’s totally mine, I love him, I’m proud and I’m so pleased we’re on this journey together.’

Race Across The World continues next Sunday at 8pm on BBC Two.
