Coronation Street spoilers: Gareth Pierce reveals horrific Todd Grimshaw twist as he goes too far

Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce) is desperate to win Billy Mayhew (Daniel Brocklebank) back in Coronation Street, no matter the cost, and therefore he resorts to some pretty drastic measures.

Todd has re-infiltrated himself into not only Billy and Summer Spellman’s (Harriet Bibby) life, but he’s also become something of a mainstay in Paul Foreman’s (Peter Ash).

Paul struggled to get along with his lover’s former flame upon his return, but the pair have seemingly become rather close in the months that followed — or at least that’s what Paul thinks.

Todd has manipulated things rather dramatically over the past few weeks, as — upon learning that Paul is skiving off work — he dropped by the flat to see what was up.

Paul admitted that he had a rather tough night on the helpline, so Todd took it upon himself to offer support.

As they chatted, Todd suggested that he would also like to sign up as a volunteer at the helpline.

Viewers will know that Todd has been using the helpline as yet another method to manipulate things to his advantage.

Speaking about the character’s motives, actor Gareth Pierce told Metro.co.uk: ‘The helpline is just another way of getting into Paul’s orbit really, as he doesn’t quite know where he is going with this yet.

‘He knows he wants to toy with Paul but not necessarily how he is going to do that. Being at Underworld he is already in one of Paul’s workplaces so he finds out about the helpline and wants to be on the inside of that as well.

‘There is a determination on getting what he wants. I think that Todd is very good, he’s a bit of a chameleon really, he’s able to show different faces to the different people in his life and that is why I think sometimes manipulation can be quite subtle.

‘He mirrors people a little bit, it’s not necessarily always obvious when he is manipulating someone. For me there is a sadness to Todd at his core and I think a lot of that is feeling let down at times in his early life that he does what he does and find that motivation for why he is what he is.

‘He’s not a sociopath – he certainly doesn’t feel for other people, I just get the sense that he is always putting himself first and able to turn off those emotions like a tap.’
